Colour Restoration Insights
Can you restore photos that are completely faded to yellow or sepia?
Yes. Many photos from the mid-20th century suffer from chemical "shifting" where they turn entirely yellow or orange. Theodore uses advanced digital channel mapping to extract the hidden original data and neutralize the staining, bringing back the true whites and natural skin tones.
How do you ensure the restored colours are historically accurate?
We don't guess. We reference period-specific colour palettes, military uniforms, and historical archives. Theodore also works one-on-one with you to incorporate your personal memories—such as the specific colour of a family car or a cherished dress—to ensure authentic results.
Will my restored photo look 'artificial' or 'over-processed'?
Never. Our studio standard is "Authenticity First." Unlike automated AI apps that create a plastic look, Theodore manually layers textures and grain back into the image to ensure it looks like a high-quality original photograph, not a digital painting.
What causes photographs to fade over time?
Fading is usually caused by UV exposure, humidity, or "acidic migration" from non-archival storage. Our process doesn't just fix the current image; we provide high-resolution digital masters and archival printing options that are designed to last another 100+ years without fading.
Do you provide a digital copy or just a print?
Every colour restoration includes a high-resolution digital master file. This allows you to share the memory on social media or with family members globally. We also offer premium physical prints on museum-grade archival paper as an optional addition.
Can you restore colour to a photo that was originally Black and White?
While this is a separate service known as "Colourising," we can certainly help. If the photo was originally in colour but has faded to grey, we use Colour Restoration. If it was taken on a Black and White camera, we use Artisan Colourisation.
